Jonathan Gain

Jonathan is Stellar’s Founder and Chief Executive and he has been involved in financial services since 1993 when he graduated from Bournemouth University with a BA (Hons) in Accountancy. He joined the then newly formed Close Brothers Investment Limited in 1993 and was appointed Finance Director just five years later in 1998. In his role he was responsible for overseeing its property investment funds and numerous tax planning products, before becoming Managing Director in 2005.

When he left to set up Stellar, it had approximately £1 billion of funds under management. Drawing on his wide-ranging experience, Jonathan established Stellar Asset Management in 2007 along with the former founder of Close Brothers Investment Limited and two other colleagues. Jonathan remains the majority shareholder.

David Stein

David is Stellar’s Investment Manager and is a graduate from The University of Nottingham with a BA (Hons) in History.

Having developed a keen interest in tax-efficient investments whilst working at a tax consultancy, David joined Stellar’s investment team in June 2019.

David holds the CFA UK IMC qualification and is currently studying towards the CAIA charter.

Matthew Steiner

Matthew is Stellar’s Corporate Director and he has worked in the financial services industry since he graduated from Kingston University in 1997. Initially training and qualifying as a financial adviser, he joined Close Brothers Investment Limited in 2000 in the property investment team, where he gained his knowledge of physical assets and tax-advantaged products.

In 2012, he joined Stellar as a director and shareholder – and since then, has been instrumental in developing its range of Business Relief qualifying, Inheritance Tax Planning Services. In 2019, he launched Stellar’s award-winning Partner Services programme, which brings together expertise from across the estate planning industry, to provide financial advisers, individuals and businesses with the resources to produce robust tax and estate planning strategies.
