People

The directors of Stellar will usually invest in the opportunities it promotes and we understand how hard people have worked and saved to participate in our offers. The directors of Stellar have been responsible for the creation and management of a wide range of investment opportunities for the retail investment market. All directors were previously employed by Close Brothers Investment and offer investors a combined 40 years of investment management experience.

Jonathan Gain

Chief Executive

Jonathan Gain

Jonathan is the founder and chief executive of Stellar. Prior to setting up Stellar, he was at Close Brothers Investment having joined in 1993. At Close he qualified as an accountant and in 1998 was appointed finance director. Jonathan was primarily responsible for the company’s financial interests and had responsibility for structuring, launching and monitoring a large number of tax and property based funds. Jonathan became managing director at Close in early 2006 and left at the end of 2006 when the company had approximately £1 billion of funds under management.

Jonathan graduated from Bournemouth University in 1993 with a BA (Hons) in Accountancy.

When Jonathan is not hard at work, he enjoys getting actively involved in charity work including creating fun days and sponsored cycle rides. For his sins, he supports Manchester United Football Club as you would expect from somebody living in the south of England! When his time is not taken up with his family, football and charity work, Jonathan allows himself those few days a year to watch England’s cricket team (hopefully) win a few tests!

Craig Reader

Chairman

Craig Reader

Craig founded Close Brothers Investment in 1991 and was its managing director from inception until early 2006. During his tenure, over £1 billion of capital was raised from private investors for a wide range of products and the number of employees grew to over 100. Craig was responsible for creating Close Brothers Investment’s excellent reputation for innovative tax and property based investment products.

Outside of work Craig can be found practising his bunker shots on any golf course that will have him. If he is not exploring hitherto unchartered regions of some of the UK’s finest courses, he can often be found supporting the England cause at Lord’s, Twickenham, Wembley etc - not usually a stress free pastime!

Gordon Pugh

Director

Gordon Pugh

Gordon graduated from Loughborough University in 2000 with an MEng (hons) in Systems Engineering before joining Close Brothers Investment. During his time at Close, Gordon helped to structure and monitor a number of enterprise investment scheme companies and funds before specialising in other tax efficient investments including inheritance tax mitigation, film schemes and venture capital trusts. In 2005, Gordon left Close for Octopus Investments to help with the distribution of their tax products.

Gordon also has the Investment Manager Certificate (IMC) and is enrolled on the Chartered Financial Analyst Program.

Outside of work, Gordon enjoys travel and is seeing the world, one city at a time. He is a keen skier and has now got to the level where he is not falling over every time he hits the slopes. Off the slopes, Gordon likes nothing better to entertain his family and friends by rustling up some sumptuous food. He is also available for recipes!

Matthew Steiner

Business Development Director

Matthew Steiner

Matthew joined Stellar in April 2011, after spending the previous three years working at Downing Corporate Finance and a specialist company which provides tax efficient solutions to expatriates. He has been employed in the financial services industry since 1998 and had the bulk of his career in the property investment division of Close Brothers Investment Limited, where he worked closely with the current directors of Stellar.

Matthew graduated from Kingston University with an BA (Hons) degree in Business, Finance and Marketing and is a qualified financial adviser.

Outside of the office he has travelled widely in Asia. Highlights include trekking to Annapurna base camp in the Himalayas, travelling through Vietnam and experiencing the Chinese railway. As part of a sabbatical in 2007 he spent four months as a volunteer teacher in an orphanage in Pokhara, Nepal where he organised activities for the children.

Andrew Sheena

Sales & Marketing Manager

Andrew Sheena

Andrew graduated from Nottingham Trent University in 2005 with a BA (Hons) in Business Studies and Marketing, Andrew spent the first few years of his working life at a central London IFA firm, First Action Finance, in a business development role before working in a client facing capacity in an advisory role.

Given his background, Andrew joined Stellar Asset Management at the beginning of 2010 to promote Stellar’s tax efficient investment products to intermediaries.

In his time away from work Andrew enjoys everything to do with football, watching, coaching as well as fancying himself as a bit of a Paul Scholes (unfortunately he is a Manchester United fan!). As well as his love of football; Andrew takes time to see as many movies as possible, from the more contemporary offerings to some real old classics and considers himself quite the film buff!
